The cause of the illnesses that made a Grolsch brewery tour group sick remains unknown. The incident, after which nine visitors and two employees were taken away by ambulances, is “extremely distressing,” the Twente-based beer brewer told NU.nl.
The group had tasted brewing water, which is eventually used to make beer. They then started experiencing symptoms, including nausea and vomiting, after which they were hospitalized.
Both the brewery and police have launched their investigations. On Sunday, the exact cause behind the group falling sick remains unclear.
The brewery has been closed for the time being. “It is extremely distressing that this could have happened,” a Grolsch spokesperson told NU.nl.
